Krabat spends three years with the devilish master at the mill in Koselbruch.

During his apprenticeship as a miller's boy, Krabat learns more than just milling. His master is an evil sorcerer, but through the love of a girl, Krabat is able to save himself and the other miller's apprentices from the master's clutches and render him harmless.
